The squeaking hall

It was my first day as a senior in the Malviya hostel ,and like all my peers I was both excited and nervous ,it was reminiscent of my first day at college .After unpacking I went to fill my water bottle little did I know that a mystery awaited me there .As I crossed the hall to reach the water cooler on the other side ,I was startled by a squeaking sound emanating from the wall ,my initial reaction was that I was possibly still drunk from last night ,but the sound grew stronger as I went by. Was I hallucinating? Were my all night-outs ,parties and smoking taking their toll ?After a moment of introspection ad battling with the thought of my own sanity ,I decided to let this incident slip by and just move along .Just as I was about to do so I saw my senior walking , blissfully ignorant to the sound ,as if everything was normal ,not even a slight glance on the either side towards the wall
To elaborate further I will like you all to visualize an alley connecting one hostel with other ,and just imagine it’s walls squeaking or whistling like a tree ,and just imagine people walking by completely oblivious to such unusual phenomena .How do you feel ,not so good right? A thought hit me were these people hearing what I was hearing ,and were in a state of denial .This could be true ,I was estatic , but there was a setback I couldn’t directly ask them lest they should consider me a loon as they might not be hearing anything .so close yet so far ,sigh.

The whole day went away thinking about my degrading mental health .It was nearly night and I was going downstairs for having my dinner ,I had to cross that wretched ,cursed hall .I gathered all my strength and started walking ,trying very hard in the process not to hear anything that wasn’t there , but to my astonishment I saw something that was both relaxing and frustrating at the same time.
What I saw was that the “squeaking” noise was actually made by bats that had miraculously managed to squeeze themselves in the cracks in the wall .the seniors had known this and that’s why they had acted so casual .Truth is stranger than fiction
